The result is an overly anxious protagonist pining over an overly affected goofus. Andreen also returns Indian and White British Arthur to his baseline characterization: smug, erudite, and annoying. The supporting cast is lacking in dimensionality, perhaps because the lead comes across as not being terribly interested in getting to know others as real people. Mixing in the boarding school kids with the already large cast of characters risks scuttling the book, but White junior Finley returns to her self-absorbed status quo. Finley’s confused and annoyed: Are they a couple, or was it all just a holiday fling? In addition to Finley’s romantic woes, she has to navigate her prep school’s snotty rich-kid cliques, an element touched lightly upon in the previous book but brought to the forefront here. Over winter break in Finley’s small Oklahoma hometown of Christmas, the pair started smoochin’ and snugglin’, but now that they’re back at their boarding school in Connecticut, Arthur is giving Finley the cold shoulder. I would recommend So, This Is Christmas to anyone seeking a cosy tale of unexpected affection with exciting plot twists.Teen lovebirds return for another go ’round after So, This Is Christmas (2021).įinley Brown and Arthur Chakrabarti Watercress are back from the holidays.

I think it helped that Andreen had previously written nine Hallmark movies, as she has written the perfect holiday romance - you might cringe at times but oh-so worth it to watch the characters fall in love. Everyone can relate to the frustration Finley experiences throughout the novel, for example, when she knows someone isn’t telling her everything. Tracy Andreen perfectly appeals to teenagers today with her understanding of the frenemy dynamic. This means that the irritating Arthur and his aunt are expecting a perfect American Christmas! However, through their festive activities and not so festive escapades, Finley discovers Arthur may not be as annoying as she first thought… To add to the confusion, Finley’s hometown has some expectations to live up to after she embellished their website to win over her snooty classmates.

Finley could never have been prepared for what met her - separated parents, her best friend with her ex-boyfriend and worst of all, her classmate Arthur Chakrabarti Watercress and his aunt staying at her grandmother Jo’s inn.

When Finley Brown decides to leave her fancy boarding school for Christmas and go to her hometown of Christmas, Oklahoma, she expected everything to be just as she left it.
